Cutting the cost of car insurance
Below are tips on cutting the cost of your car insurance:
- Go for a policy with high excess. Most people will know that when a claim is made the insurance premium will increase and your no claim bonuses will be used therefore it is not worth claiming for a small damage. It usually safe not to claim anything under £500
- Apply to your existing insurer for a quote as a new customer. This will sometimes provide a cheaper quote than the renewal notice
- Buy a new car as insurance is usually free for a couple of years. This will especially be of interest to new and young drivers as insurance premiums are initially high for them and getting free car insurance will help them considerably
- Take the PassPlus course. This will enable you to shed 30% off your car insurance
- Don’t modify your car in anyway. Adding Spoilers, having alloy wheels, lowering suspension or any other modification can increase your car insurance premium big time.
- Secure your car. Adding an alarm and an immobiliser or any other security device can lower your insurance quote
- When filling out a car insurance form, one of the questions asked will be where is the car kept overnight? If you do have a driveway or garage make sure you answer this correctly as it can reduce your insurance quote
- Don’t take on the first quote you get. Shop around as you will usually find a cheaper quote elsewhere
